Organic farming
Organic farming system in India is not new and is
being followed from ancient time. It is a method of farming system which
primarily aimed at cultivating the land and raising crops in such a way, as to
keep the soil alive and in good health by use of organic wastes (crop, animal
and farm wastes, aquatic wastes) and other biological materials along with
beneficial microbes (bio-fertilizers) to release nutrients to crops for
increased sustainable production in an eco friendly pollution free environment.
Energy and food security
In recent decades, researchers and policy-makers
have increasingly emphasized the importance of the complex relationships
between water, energy and food (also called the WEF nexus) that is often
overlooked in narrowly focused assessments, investments and policies. While the
interconnected nature of WEF has been recognized and supported by a number of
examples around the globe, there is a relatively limited understanding of how
to tackle these complex relationships when conducting assessments and taking
action.
Rural Technology
It has been realized that development in any
country is possible, when its majority of population living in rural areas
become part of the growth process. Development of rural infrastructure and
expansion of both farm and non-farm economy is the only way forward to achieve
such an inclusive growth. Comprehensive rural development identified as one of
the main approaches towards achieving the objectives of reducing poverty,
expand employment and enterprises creation and enhancing livelihood
opportunities in the region to improve the wellbeing of those living in the
rural areas. Therefore, it is suggested that a platform can be created to show
case a large number of rural technologies for its demonstration, dissemination,
adoption to benefit a larger group of people. This platform can be called as
Rural Technology. Forestry
Forests are interwoven with the lives of the people
of the region. They provide wood, cork and other products and services, and are
a source of income for many. Yet they are under increasing pressure from both
changes in human activities and climate-related stresses such as temperature
increases, reduced rainfall and prolonged periods of drought. The positive
message is that there is a strong technical basis and political will across the
Mediterranean to tackle these issues collaboratively.
